Unless you have hooves and are prominently featured in “Old McDonald” you probably don’t see much food when you look at the average American yard. Foodscaping is all about the marriage of landscaping and life-nurturing ecosystems – converting labor and chemical-dependant lawns into vibrant spaces filled with colorful veggies, herbs & flowers for medicine and wildlife, and fruit-bearing trees that not only look stunning but also provide fresh, homegrown goodies for your table.

Most of all, a foodscape is a place where you can feel down to your bones that the land loves you back!

What we're about:

At the heart of every project we work on is the desire that each ripe berry plucked, bare foot on warm cobblestone, and buzzing insect drunk on nectar will lead you into a deeper relationship with the land and living things that nurture you as you nurture them.

When we love someone we want what is best for them, and I hope that by helping you know and love your piece of earth we can collectively learn to make decisions in the best interest of our common home.

“Well begun is halfway done” so they say, and when it comes to growing things there’s only so many YouTube videos you can watch before you just gotta get your hands in the soil and try. The natural world is forever in a wild & chaotic dance of growth-change-death-rebirth, and the best way to learn the steps and patterns of the dance is to start dancing!

Plant a seed, see what happens, change something, make “mistakes”, write things down, ask an elder, but never – never! – be done learning.

Reciprocity is one of the bedrock forces of nature, ensuring that in one way or another, the energy and input you send out into the world is mirrored back to you. It may seem like the mower exhaust, herbicide residues, and bagged-up leaves just dissipate into nothingness, but our air, water, and soil are holding it all like slow drips of poison into the common well.

What if we put in the good stuff instead? Kitchen scraps and yard waste composted into rich soil, rainwater caught and slowed to recharge our aquifers, even our thoughtful attention and joyful presence in the landscape…

Put good in, get good out. Your patch of earth is just waiting to love you back with abundance!

The Face behind the Foodscape:

Dan Aisenbrey [eye-zen-br-eye]

It all started back in 2012 with a hatchback full of lumber, some borrowed tools, and a passion for helping people grow food. In the decade since, Dan has built on that passion by establishing farms & community gardens, fighting for food access in local government, and even managing Knoxville’s top farmers’ market. In 2023, the culmination of that passion & experience burst from the soil as Edible Abundance Foodscapes! When he’s not on a foodscape job site, Dan (and partner, Beth) run Hey Moon Farm, a family farmstead for sheep, chickens, heirloom produce, and two feral children. His favorite weird fruit are kiwiberries.
